TASUS Volunteers for O’Bannon Institute Day of Service

May 4, 2016

Bloomington, IN- April 22nd was the annual O’Bannon Institute Day of Service. Ivy Tech requested that businesses in the community partner with them by having employees volunteer time to help reach Ivy Tech’s goal of 1000 hours of community service, in a single day. There were several volunteer opportunities for employees to choose from. In total over 1,200 hours of volunteer work were completed in a single day, which equates to an economic contribution of over $28,000.

We had many employees donate their time for this year’s Day of Service. Cindy Welch helped make bee houses for the community orchard and Ryann Christy made catnip toys for the humane society. Jay Wilson got his hands dirty planting flowers in Ellettsville and mulching at Edgewood Intermediate school with Judy O’Bannon. Ms. O’Bannon is the former First Lady of Indiana and her late husband Frank O’Bannon is the inspiration for the O’Bannon Institute Day of Service.

Carey Marks and Larry Mackey both volunteered at the Warehouse setting up for a cancer benefit boxing event. KayLeigh Duerksen mulched at The Rise, a branch of the middle way house. Heather Krout painted the dining room at Becky’s Place and organized donated clothes. She will be going back later this month, along with several other volunteers, to put a second coat on.

This was a great opportunity and an amazing way to get involved in the community. Thank you to all who volunteered!
